A Cosmic Ocean: Gaia’s Gallery and the Light Market

First Friday PDX is excited to partner with the Portland Winter Light Festival and Gaia’s Gallery for a First Friday unlike any other. Inspired by the swirling clouds of the stars, and the strange and mysterious life of the deep sea, A Cosmic Ocean will bridge the Abyssal and Celestial realms. Featuring the deep sea planetarium, cosmic creatures will swim in starry depths above, while vendors, musicians, and installations fill the halls below.

Wander the realm from 6-9pm, sip tea, share your dreams with someone new, connect, collaborate, support local vendors and artisans, and listen to live music.

Be ready to be transported to another realm visually during the free art walk and light market from 6-9pm, then in body, mind, and spirit from 9-11pm! Through the art of amazing ecstatic dance music, long-time local favorite DJ Anna Dale will guide your transformational journey on the decks. Let the waves of sound invite your body to move, and your mind to quiet, as you tune into the cosmos of your soul. We are honored to bridge worlds in this way, for the third edition of Gaia’s Gallery. Tickets for the dance will be available on EventBrite and at the door. Please remain mindfully sober for the ecstatic dance, so that we can connect with intention and consent.

About the event

  • The event will take place on February 6th and 7th in coordination with the Portland Winter Light Festival (PDXWLF)
  • The art walk event will run from 6 – 9PM both days
  • Arrive for ecstatic dance opening circle by 9:15pm to set the container, esp if you are new to ecstatic dance.
  • Wonderlove food carts will be open across the street, there may be a couple food items available inside
  • Location: inside the Bridge Space Building (133 SE Madison St, Portland, OR), one block away from the Electric Blocks PDXWLF hub

Who is welcome

  • Everyone is welcome, kids with clear supervision
  • All forms of creative expression are welcome, including 2d visual art, sculpture, jewelry making, music, light installations and performance
  • Local vendors and community groups are also welcome to participate

Fees and Registration

  • Vendor fees: $50 for both nights, sliding scale $22 – $33 for Fri night only
  • Free for light based artists
  • Vendors and artists get to join in on the dance, if desired!
  • Please register before Jan 15, 2025 at 5:00 PM

Provided Space

  • Spaces will be assigned within the enclosed and heated main space of Bridge Space
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own equipment and supplies—including extra lights, extension cords, tables, chairs, canopies, or display equipment
  • Setup begins at 3pm., and will be required to finish takedown by 11 PM Sat night
